Club manager and coach

Mikkel Bjerch-Andresen

Represented Norway many times, Baylor golfer and professional in the US. Ten years of elite-level coaching, including seven as an NCAA Division I coach, with four former players on the PGA Tour. Now at the club every day.

The story

I grew up skiing, playing football and doing biathlon, and only got serious about golf at 14. A few years later I was representing Norway, including a European junior team silver in 2010, and in 2011 I went to Baylor University in Texas on a golf scholarship.

I played four years at Baylor and won the 2014 Royal Oaks Intercollegiate. After college I played professionally in the US in 2015–2016. I worked with several Norwegian and American coaches and learned a lot about technique in that period, and about the balance between long-term development and pressure and performance at a high level. That experience shapes how I coach today.

I have since spent ten years coaching at the elite level, including seven as an NCAA Division I coach at Stephen F. Austin, Texas Tech and Baylor. At Texas Tech I was assistant and later associate head coach under Greg Sands. I coached Ludvig Åberg there, and in three years the team had five All-Americans, a national No. 1 ranking and a Big 12 match play title.

In 2021 I had the honour of serving as vice-captain of the International Team at the Arnold Palmer Cup, college golf's answer to the Ryder Cup. There I got to coach players like Eugenio Chacarra, David Puig and Ingrid Lindblad.

Now I'm back in Oslo as club manager and coach at Vika Golf Club, and I'm here every day. I also coach at WANG Toppidrett, help players and families with the path to US college golf, and write about golf data on Substack.

What I care about
  • Development over time

The right input over time produces results. You should understand why the ball does what it does, and which work leads to the progress we're after.

  • Enjoying practice

Mastery, smiles and energy in practice are everything. I love what I get to do.

  • Data as support

We need to measure progress, know what to look at, and learn from the distribution and patterns we have as players.

What I'm particularly good at
  • Practice plans: what to work on, how much and in what order
  • Reading Trackman data and turning it into simple, concrete targets
  • Ambitious juniors and competitive players ready for the next step
  • The path to US college golf, from both the player's and the coach's side
